The Yasharim and the Nephilim
or THE UPRIGHT AND THE FALLEN Introduction Throughout the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation there are two major categories of people. They are called by various names: the believer and non-believer, good and evil, wheat and tares, wise and foolish, the strong and weak, the saved and the lost, saints and sinners, the righteous and the unrighteous, just and unjust, the upright and the fallen, etc., etc., In this article I would like to focus on the upright and the fallen. First the upright will be covered. A NOTE OF EXPLANATION BEFORE PROCEEDING: I have included some of the key Hebrew words and their meanings so that you will better understand this Bible study (Yashar) upright, righteous, just This word is used 120 times. When yashar pertains to people, it is best translated "just" or "upright." Elohim is the standard of uprightness for His people: "Good and upright is YHWH: therefore will he teach sinners in the way" Two closely related Hebrew words to Yashar are: (Yisra'el) -Israel = "Elohim prevails" The second name for Jacob given to him by Elohim after his wrestling with the angel at Peniel (Yeshurun) -Jeshurun = "upright one" 'The Upright Nation" symbolic name for Israel, describing her ideal character . Found 4 times in the Scriptures. Deut. 32: 15, Deut. 33:5,and 26, Isa.44:2. [NOTE there is also the "Book of Jashar" possibly? the "Book of Life" mentioned in Joshua 10: 13] (nephilim) from properly, a feller, i.e. a bully or tyrant (KJV-giant) Use only 3 times (twice in Num. 13:33) "they were like giants and we were like grasshoppers" The Nephilim [fallen ones] (naphal) (naw-fal'); a primitive root; to fall, in a great variety of applications (intransitive or causative, literal or figurative) It is found 434 times in the Scriptures. Genesis 6 the Second Fall Genesis 6:1-8 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of Elohim saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then YHWH said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, (or my breath will not remain in man forever) for he is mortal; llis days will be a hundred and twenty years." The Nephilim [fallen ones] were on the earth in those days - and also afterward - when the sons of Elohim went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They [the sons of Elohim or the Nephillim were the heroes [geborim] of old, men of renown. (or more correctly men of The Name In Hebrew it says Ha-shem YHWH NOTE: I will now break down that last statement in order to better explain its proper meaning They [the sons of Elohim/or the Nephillim]were the heroes [geborim] of old, men of renown. What can possibly be meant by the expression "men of renown"? I firmly believe that the more correct interpretation should translate this phrase as "men of THE NAME" (or Ha-shem) meaning those who use and follow the name of YHWH In other words they were followers of the Name of YHWH before they fell. Men of The Name = Men of HaShem = Men of YHWH Knowing that the Nephillim were formerly men of "the Name" and were the upright ones before they Fell is the key to correctly understanding this difficult passage. Let's see how this term "Nephilim" is defined. Actually, the translation "giants" used mainly by the LXX Septuagint Translation and may be quite misleading. The word may be of unknown origin and mean "heroes" or "fierce warriors" etc, The RSV and NIV transliteration "Nephilim" is safer and may be correct in referring the noun to a race or nation. It was the Sons of YHWH (or Elohim) who became the Nephilim (or fallen ones).(They were called this because they had fallen from the true faith.) These were the ones (the Seth line) who should have known better because they were the true followers of YHWH. They fell from grace by making the serious mistake of intermarrying with the daughters of men (or the line of Cain). Many have falsely thought that this story was about Angels or heavenly beings from outer space coming down to intermarry with human beings and producing offspring which were half Elohim and half man or a race of giants. However this would contradict what Yahushua said in Matthew 22:30 'At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. " This quote infers that angels do not marry. Let's continue with the story in Genesis 6 "YHWH saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. YHWH was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So YHWH said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth - men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air - for I am grieved that I have made them." But Noah found favor in the eyes of YHWH. Yahushua used this account of Noah as a warning in Matthew 24 Matthew 24:37-40, "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. COMMENT: That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. In other words, the same pattern of misbehavior, of "marrying and giving in marriage" will be widespread when the "Son of Man" returns at the end of this age. NOTE: Genesis 6:1-7 is one of the most frequently misinterpreted passages in the entire Bible. After the fall of Adam and Eve and their expulsion from paradise in the Garden of Eden, the story moves on to the murder of Abel by his brother Cain. This episode ends with the focus is on Cain and his descendents. The next event is the birth of Seth in: Genesis 4:25 "And Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, "Elohim has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him." Seth also had a son and he named him Enoch. "At that time men began to call on the name of YHWH." This is important. It was in the time of Enoch, a son of Seth, that the true followers of YHWH began to distinguish themselves from others by the appellation of sons of Elohim; those of the other branch of Adam's family, namely Cain's line, being designated by the name, children of men. I would like to make another important point: The phrase "sons of Elohim" never refers to angels in the Bible. On the contrary it is stated in Hebrews 1: 5 "For to which of the angels did Elohim ever say, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father"? ( This is a rhetorical question/ the answer is obvious/ there are none nor were there ever any.) The phrase "sons of Elohim" never refers to angels in the Bible Sons of Elohim refers to the children of God, His True followers who call on The Name. Examples of the phrase "Sons of Elohim" There are 2 genealogies of the Moshiach. The one in Matthew traces it back to Abraham; the one in Luke traces His genealogy back to "Adam, which was the son of Elohim" For an explanation that the phrase ''sons of Elohim" is referring to men and not angels I would like to give some other Scriptural sources as proof for my position. First, let's turn to John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the "sons of Elohim", even to them that believe on his name. Second, Romans 8:14 "For as many as are led by the Spirit of Elohim, they are the "sons of Elohim." Rom 8: 18- 25 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of Elohim to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of Elohim. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the First fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.(at the Resurrection) For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Third, 1 John 3: 1- 3 "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the "sons of Elohim": therefore the world knows us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, "now are we the sons of Elohim", and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure. Some would cite Job 1:1-8 to show that lithe sons of Elohim" are angels. However, I believe that this is referring to the fact that the Israelites were required "to present themselves" to YHWH three times each year on the feasts days; and as they [the Israelites or true believers in YHWH] were attending one of the moadim, Satan accompanied them and was looking for an opportunity to attack Yah's people on one of the annual pilgrimages. He [Satan] thrust himself into an assembly of the sons of Elohim that came to present themselves before YHWH. Matthew Henry's Commentary is one of the only ones that I believe correctly interprets this passage in Job. Here is his interpretation: "One plausible explanation is that this story is about a meeting of the saints on earth, who are making an aleyah or pilgrimage to one of YHWH's appointed feast day sites. The professors of religion, in the patriarchal age, were called sons of Elohim (Genesis 6:2); they had then religious assemblies and stated times for them. The King came in to see his guests; the eye of Elohim was on all present. But there was a serpent in paradise, a Satan among the sons of Elohim; when they come together he is among them, to distract and disturb them, stands at their right hand to resist them. YHWH rebuke thee, Satan!" Let's read Job 1: 1-8 in the light of this new understanding. Job 1: 1 "In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; (yashar) he feared Elohim and shunned evil. V. 6-8 "One day the sons of Elohim) [benee ha-'Elohiym], came to present themselves before YHWH, and Satan also came with them. YHWH said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered YHWH, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it." Then YHWH said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears Elohim and shuns evil." (See Deut. 16: 16-17, Joshua 24:1, 1Peter 5:8, 9) Let's look at these three citations: Deuteronomy 16: 16-17 Three times a year all your men must appear before YHWH your Elohim at the place he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Tabernacles. No man should appear before the YHWH empty-handed: Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way YHWH your Elohim has blessed you. Joshua 24: 1 "Then Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges and officials of Israel, [in other words> the sons of Elohim] and they presented themselves before Elohim. 1 Peter 5:8-9 "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. COMMENT: Job was "blameless (tamiym) and upright [He was one of the yashar]. It was Satan who was doing everything he possibly could to cause Job to fall. i.e. going back and forth on the prowl Luke 1:5-7 In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were upright (yashar) in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commandments and regulations blamelessly. (tamiym) All of this information about the ''sons of Elohim" is of vital importance If we are to correctly interpret the second fall of man in chapter 6 of Genesis. Since we have already established that the "sons of Elohim" in this story refers to the Seth line, let us proceed on to clear up some of the other misconceptions. Just what was wrong with a union between a believer and a non believer? The answer and warning is found in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15, "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between the Messiah and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? A perfect example is King Solomon and his many wives. This was the main reason why Solomon fell (naphal) from grace. Let's briefly look at Solomon's downfall 1 Kings 11: 1-6 King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh's daughter - Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. 2 They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, "You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods." Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. 3 He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. 4 As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been. 5 He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molech the detestable god of the Ammonites. 6 So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not follow the Lord completely, as David his father had done. Being unequally yoked together with an unbeliever is a mixed marriage; it has nothing to do with marrying someone from a different race, color, or ethnicity According to the Scriptures there is only one race i.e. the race of Adam or the human race: Acts 17:24-31 "The Elohim who made the world and everything in it is the Adonai of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives a man life and breath and everything else. From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. Elohim did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' "Therefore since we are Elohim's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone - an image made by man's design and skill. In the past Elohim overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to a "men by raising him from the dead." Acts 17: 26 from the KJV And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; Mixed marriages are when a Be1iever is unequally yoked together with an Unbeliever it has nothing to do with marrying someone from a different race, color, or ethnicity. Let's return to the question: What is wrong with being unequally yoked? Part of the answer for this prohibition is found in Deut. 7:1-7 for the warning YHWH gave to the Israelites before they entered the Promised Land. Deut 7:1-6 (See also Ex 34:16) When the YHWH your Elohim brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations - the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you - 2 and when the YHWH your Elohim has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally. Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy. 3 Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, Why? for they will turn your sons away from following me to serve other elohim, and the YHWH's anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you. 5 This is what you are to do to them: Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones, cut down their Asherah poles and burn their idols in the fire. 6 For you are a people holy to the YHWH your Elohim. The YHWH your Elohim has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. (See Ps 106:32-43) Ezra 9:1-10:5 After these things had been done, the leaders came to me and said, "The people of Israel, including the priests and the Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the neighboring peoples with their detestable practices, like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites. 2 They have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, and have mingled the holy race with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness." 3 When I heard this, I tore my tunic and cloak, pulled hair from my head and beard and sat down appalled. 4 Then everyone who trembled at the words of the Elohim of Israel gathered around me because of this unfaithfulness of the exiles. And I sat there appalled until the evening sacrifice. 5 Then, at the evening sacrifice, I rose from my self-abasement, with my tunic and cloak torn, and fell on my knees with my hands spread out to the YHWH my Elohim and prayed: Marrying a non Israelite Joseph married a non-Israelite Gen 41 :45,51 Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-Paneah and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, to be his wife. and before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. Moshe married an Ethiopian Num 12:1-2 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite or (Ethiopian) woman. Two very prominent women in the ancestry of Yahushua were not Israelites Rahab and Ruth: Matt 1: 5 Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, [A prostitute from the city of Jericho a Canaanite city] Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth [Moabite] To Repeat 2 Cor. 6:14-18 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Moshiach and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of Elohim and idols? For we are the temple of the living Elohim. As Elohim has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their Elohim, and they will be my people." 17 ''Therefore come out from them and be separate, says YHWH Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you." "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says YHWH EI Shadai." It was also a problem for Ezra after the return from the Babylonian captivity. The account is found in Ezra 9:1-2: Ezra 9: 1-2 "After these things had been done, the leaders came to me and said, "The people of Israel, including the priests and the Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the neighboring peoples with their detestable practices, like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites. They have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, and have mingled the holy race with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness." The story of Noah is also found in both of Peter's letters in the NT 1 Peter 3: 17-22 "For the Messiah died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to YHWH. He [Yahushua] was put to death in the body but made alive by the Holy Spirit, through whom also He [the Spirit of the Messiah] went and preached [YHWH's Holy Spirit preached through Noah] to the spirits [or to the antediluvian believers] in prison [those destined for destruction] who disobeyed long ago when YHWH waited patiently in the days of Noah [120 years] while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also - not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward Elohim. It saves you by the resurrection of Yahushua the Messiah, who has gone into heaven and is at YHWH's right hand 2 Peter 2:4-5 "For if Elohim did not spare angels [the "sons of Elohim" or the true believers, Or those of the lineage of Seth, who fell] when they sinned, but sent them to hell, [the grave] putting them into gloomy dungeons [the grave] to be held for judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its unholy people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; Genesis 10 The Third Fall Things did not get any better after the time of Noah and the Flood. Notice what happened to Nimrod who was Ham's grandson. Genesis 10:8 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before YHWH; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before (or in the face 0f YHWH." The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ur, Calah and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. Nimrod (The Hebrew name Nimrod means "let us rebel,") Nimrod was the first one to claim to be a "mighty one in the earth." Nimrod was the first human to be worshiped as a god. He built the tower of Babel. Babel was the beginning of his kingdom. Nimrod is responsible for setting the pattern for all of the counterfeit religions of the world. He and subsequent followers in the Babylonian culture took the original truth given by YHWH, which was found in the Garden in Eden, and greatly corrupted it beyond recognition. Nimrod's influence and deleterious evil effects on the history of the world cannot be overestimated. The origins of all pagan religious systems point back to Nimrod and Babylon the city that he established. For a greater understanding of this fact I would direct you to an important book on the subject: THE TWO BABYLONS by Alexander Hislop I have listed below several Scriptures which gives YHWH's promises to those who follow Him. Ps 37:22 Those YHWH blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be cut off. If YHWH delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for YHWH upholds him with his hand. Ps 55:22 Cast your cares on YHWH and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. YHWH gives a warning Isa 8:13-15 YHWH Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread, and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a Rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare. Many of them will stumble; they will fall and be broken, they will be snared and captured." Jer 51:7-14 Babylon was a gold cup in YHWH's hand; she made the whole earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; therefore they have now gone mad. Babylon will suddenly fall and be broken. Paul explains why Israel fell and the consequences of that fall Romans 9:30-33 What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the "stumbling stone." As it is written: "See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." Romans 11:11-36 Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious. But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their fullness bring! I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles, I make much of my ministry in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy and save some of them. For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? If the part of the dough offered as first fruits is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches. If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in." Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if Elohim did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of Elohim: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to your provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. And if they do not persist in unbelief they will be grafted in, for Elohim is able to graft them in again. After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree! I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, 1 Corinthians 10:11-13 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us. on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. SO if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And Elohim is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. Speaking of Israel in the desert the author of the book of Hebrews said Hebrews 4: 1-13 "Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as Elohim has said, "So I declared on oath in my anger, 'They shall never enter my rest.'" For if Joshua had given them rest, Elohim would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath - rest for the people of Elohim; for anyone who enters Elohim's rest also rests from his own work, just as Elohim did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. For the word of Elohim is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from Elohim's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." What happens when we continue to go on sinning after we were once enlightened? Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of Elohim and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away to be brought back to repentance. because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of Elohim all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Paul was fearful that he might fall 1 Cor 9:27 "I [Paul] beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. Jude 24 "To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy- to the only Elohim our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Yahushua the Messiah our Adonai, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. YHWH made man upright (yashar) Eccl 7:29 This only have I found: Elohim made mankind upright [yashar], but men have gone in search of many schemes." Who shall stand when He appears? - and be not Fallen from His grace? ... the Upright (yashar) ... the Blamelessness (tamiym) ...turns away from their own schemes (repents) ...has clean hands and a pure heart. ...stands firm ...walks righteously ...speaks what is right Only the Yasharim or upright will stand when He appears Psalms 24:3-5 Who may ascend the hill of YHWH? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from YHWH Psalms 26: 11-12 But I lead a blameless life; redeem me and be merciful to me. My feet stand on level ground; in the great assembly I will praise YHWH. Psalms 40:2 I waited patiently for YHWH; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Psalms 130:3-4 If you, 0 YHWH, kept a record of sins, 0 Adonai, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared. "Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?" He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil - this is the man who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him. Mal 3:2-4 But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner's fire or a launderer's soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then YHWH will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to YHWH, as in days gone by, as in former years. Mt 24:10-13 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. Note: This passage disproves those who say once saved a/ways saved. If you want to be saved you must stand firm to the end. WE Will All [both the Yasharim-upright and the Nephilim-fa//en} stand before the Judgment Seat of YHWH Rom. 14:8-12 If we live, we live to YHWH; and if we die, we die to YHWH. So, whether we live or die, we belong to YHWH. For this very reason, Messiah died and returned to life so that he might be YHWH of both the dead and the living. You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand (individually) before Elohim's judgment seat. It is written: As surely as I live,' says YHWH, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to Elohim. So then, each of us will give an account of himself to Elohim. 1 Cor. 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of YHWH, because you know that your labor in YHWH is not in vain. 2 Cor. 1:21-22 Now it is Elohim who makes both us and you stand firm in Messiah. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. After Putting on " the Armor of YHWH" We as Believers are told to Stand Eph 6:10-18 Finally, be strong in YHWH and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of Elohim so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of Elohim, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done evervthing, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist. with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. which is the word of Elohim. Ezekiel's vision of "Dry Bones" This describes how YHWH will resurrect His upright or Yashar nation Ezek 37:9-14 This is what the Sovereign YHWH says: Come from the four winds, 0 breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live. So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet - a vast army. Then he said to me: Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off. Therefore prophesy and say to them: This is what the Sovereign YHWH says: 0 my people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the YHWH, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the YHWH have spoken, and I have done it, declares the YHWH. COMMENT: The Yeshurun (yashar) nation will stand to become the bride of the Lamb when YHWH will once again marry his upright ones as mentioned and described in the book of Revelation Rev 19:7-9 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride [the Upright Nation] has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear." (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb! Isa 26:7 The path of the righteous is level; 0 Upright One, you make the way of the righteous smooth. This is a Bible study by Joe and Jackie Dombek Email>jsdombek@gmail. com The Yasharim and the Nephilim or THE UPRIGHT AND THE FALLEN Introduction Throughout the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation there are two major categories of people. A NOTE OF EXPLANATION BEFORE PROCEEDING: I have included some of the key Hebrew words and their meanings so that you will better understand this Bible study rwy OT 3477 (Yashar) upright, righteous, just This word is used 120 times. When yashar pertains to people, it is best translated "just" or "upright." Elohim is the standard of uprightness for His people: "Good and upright is YHWH: therefore will he teach sinners in the way" Two closely related Hebrew words to Yashar are: lxrwy OT:3478 (Yisra'el) -Israel = "Elohim prevails" The second name for Jacob given to him by Elohim after his wrestling with the angel at Peniel Nvrwy OT:3484 (Yeshurun) -Jeshurun = "upright one" 'The Upright Nation" symbolic name for Israel, describing her ideal character . Found 4 times in the Scriptures. Deut. 32: 15, Deut. 33:5,and 26, Isa.44:2. [NOTE there is also the "Book of Jashar" possibly? the "Book of Life" mentioned in Joshua 10: 13] OT:5303 (nephilim) from OT: 5307 properly, a feller, i.e. a bully or tyrant (KJV-giant) Use only 3 times (twice in Num. 13:33) "they were like giants and we were like grasshoppers" The Nephilim [fallen ones] OT:5307 (naphal) (naw-fal'); a primitive root; to fall, in a great variety of applications (intransitive or causative, literal or figurative) It is found 434 times in the Scriptures. (or more correctly men of The Name In Hebrew it says Ha-shem Mwh NOTE: I will now break down that last statement in order to better explain its proper meaning They [the sons of Elohim/or the Nephillim]were the heroes [geborim] of old, men of renown. What can possibly be meant by the expression "men of renown"? I firmly believe that the more correct interpretation should translate this phrase as "men of THE NAME" (or Ha-shem. MWH) meaning those who use and follow the name of YHWH other words they were followers of the Name of YHWH before they fell. Knowing that the Nephillim were formerly men of "the Name" and were the upright ones before they Fell is the key to correctly understanding this difficult passage. Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened who have tasted the heavenly sift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of Elohim and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away to be brought back to repentance. because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of Elohim all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. A NOTE OF EXPLANATION BEFORE PROCEEDING: I have included some of the key Hebrew words and their meanings so that you will better understand this Bible study rwy OT 3477 (Yashar) upright, righteous, just This word is used 120 times. When yashar pertains to people, it is best translated "just" or "upright." Elohim is the standard of uprightness for His people: "Good and upright is YHWH: therefore will he teach sinners in the way" Two closely related Hebrew words to Yashar are: OT:3478 (Yisra'el) -Israel = "Elohim prevails" The second name for Jacob given to him by Elohim after his wrestling with the angel at Peniel OT:3484 (Yeshurun) -Jeshurun = "upright one" 'The Upright Nation" symbolic name for Israel, describing her ideal character . MWH) meaning those who use and follow the name of YHWH In other words they were followers of the Name of YHWH before they fell. Knowing that the Nephillim were formerly men of "the Name" and were the upright ones before they Fell is the key to correctly understanding this difficult passage. Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened who have tasted the heavenly sift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of Elohim and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away to be brought back to repentance. because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of Elohim all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. [NOTE there is also the "Book of Jashar" possibly? the "Book of Life" mentioned in Joshua 10: 13] lypn OT:5303 (nephilim) from OT: 5307 properly, a feller, i.e. a bully or tyrant (KJV-giant) Use only 3 times (twice in Num. 13:33) "they were like giants and we were like grasshoppers" The Nephilim [fallen ones] lpn OT:5307 (naphal) (naw-fal'); a primitive root; to fall, in a great variety of applications (intransitive or causative, literal or figurative) It is found 434 times in the Scriptures. (or more correctly men of The Name In Hebrew it says Ha-shem Mwh NOTE: I will now break down that last statement in order to better explain its proper meaning They [the sons of Elohim/or the Nephillim]were the heroes [geborim] of old, men of renown. Mwh ywnx Mlvfm rwx Myrbgh Myhlxh ynb= The sons of Elohim Myrbnh = 0T:1368 (were) mighty men Mlvfm = OT:5769 of old ywnx = OT:376 men of ./ ./\ Mwh = OT 8034 the Name What can possibly be meant by the expression "men of renown"? I firmly believe that the more correct interpretation should translate this phrase as "men of THE NAME" (or Ha-shem. MWH) meaning those who use and follow the name of YHWH hvhyIn other words they were followers of the Name of YHWH before they fell. Men of The Name = Men of Mwh = Men of hvhy Knowing that the Nephillim were formerly men of "the Name" and were the upright ones before they Fell is the key to correctly understanding this difficult passage. Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened who have tasted the heavenly sift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of Elohim and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away to be brought back to repentance. because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of Elohim all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. [NOTE there is also the "Book of Jashar" possibly? the "Book of Life" mentioned in Joshua 10: 13] lypn OT:5303 (nephilim) from OT: 5307 properly, a feller, i.e. a bully or tyrant (KJV-giant) Use only 3 times (twice in Num. Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened who have tasted the heavenly sift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of Elohim and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away to be brought back to repentance. because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of Elohim all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. [NOTE there is also the "Book of Jashar" possibly? the "Book of Life" mentioned in Joshua 10: 13] lypn OT:5303 (nephilim) from OT: 5307 properly, a feller, i.e. a bully or tyrant (KJV-giant) Use only 3 times (twice in Num. Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened who have tasted the heavenly sift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of Elohim and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away to be brought back to repentance. because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of Elohim all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. [NOTE there is also the "Book of Jashar" possibly? the "Book of Life" mentioned in Joshua 10: 13] lypn OT:5303 (nephilim) from OT: 5307 properly, a feller, i.e. a bully or tyrant (KJV-giant) Use only 3 times (twice in Num. Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened who have tasted the heavenly sift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of Elohim and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away to be brought back to repentance. because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of Elohim all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. [NOTE there is also the "Book of Jashar" possibly? the "Book of Life" mentioned in Joshua 10: 13] lypn OT:5303 (nephilim) from OT: 5307 properly, a feller, i.e. a bully or tyrant (KJV-giant) Use only 3 times (twice in Num. Hebrews 6:4-6 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened who have tasted the heavenly sift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of Elohim and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away to be brought back to repentance. because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of Elohim all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. This is a Bible study by Joe and Jackie Dombek Email>jsdombek@gmail. com |
